A typical setup
As we attend medical congresses and sometimes give presentations too, we have always been frustrated with the often poor quality of audiovisual services at even major congresses. That is why our own AV setup will always reflect how we would like it to be for ourselves.
Our “typical” AV setup consists of much more than just a projector and a laptop connection. We want to make the technical issue as “invisible” as possible: in concreto, this means projection from the back of the congress hall or even retroprojection. This also means seamless transitions between presentations: when the next speaker takes his place at the lectern, his first slide has already been “put on” by our presentation technician; from there on, the speaker controls his presentation using a wireless mouse and TFT monitor or even by simply touching the screen in front of him. After his talk, our technician switches the last slide for a neutral logo or programme slide : no more ugly Powerpoint or Windows desktops !
As much as we take care of the speakers, we attend to the moderators: in front of the moderator table, the big screens are repeated on plasma screens or large TFT monitors. A “timing computer” can be installed; a “message screen” allows communication of urgent technical or household messages to the moderators during the presentations.
Of course, we “dress” the conference room to our standards: black cloth, dedicated and background lighting, and plants make the room “special”. On major congresses, our “stage designer” actually builds a complete set for a podium !
